Software Engineer, Infrastructure

Glue is a well-funded startup working on the next generation of work communication tools. We believe that today’s work chat is noisy, unstructured, and not designed for productivity. We’re drawing from decades of communication innovation in structured notes, email, groups, and real-time messaging to create a tool that gets out of the way and lets teams exchange information and make decisions in a more natural way.

Opportunity

As an experienced DevOps Engineer, you’ll be joining a dynamic environment where every team member's voice is heard, and contributions are valued. Here, you won't be just another cog in the machine—you’ll be at the heart of our efforts to streamline and automate our software development and deployment processes. Your expertise will directly influence our ability to deliver high-quality software quickly, reliably, and securely, making a real difference in how we build, test, and deploy our solutions.

What you'll do

  • Spearhead the implementation and management of DevOps tools, practices, and processes to enhance software development, testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Collaborate with development and IT teams to automate build, deployment, and release processes, ensuring maximum efficiency, reliability, and security.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, incorporating automated testing and deployment to accelerate software delivery and minimize risk.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot production systems, rapidly identifying and resolving issues to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
  • Drive continuous improvements in system reliability, scalability, and security through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and robust configuration management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and policies, implementing secure coding practices, vulnerability assessments, and system hardening.
  • Keep up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in DevOps, security, and cloud computing; leverage this knowledge to enhance our DevOps workflows and security posture.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the DevOps team and across the organization.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and backup strategies to protect and maintain critical system functionality.

What we're looking for

  • Proven track record as a DevOps Engineer, with demonstrable experience in creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and optimizing infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency in development languages like TypeScript, Go, or similar, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Ruby.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes).
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Demonstrated experience with CI/CD tools like CircleCI, GitHub Workflows, Jenkins, or similar.
  • Solid knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, for collaborative development and versioning.
  • Expertise in monitoring and observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or the ELK stack to ensure system visibility and performance.
  • Strong grasp of networking protocols, security practices, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks, standards, and compliance requirements (such as SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, well-suited for a fast-paced, agile, and team-driven environment.

What will help you succeed

  • 5+ years of devops or development experience
  • 2+ years of experience operating and maintaining production systems
  • 2+ years of experience with a typed language such as Go, TypeScript, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience working with SQL databases at the application and infrastructure levels
  • Experience designing and maintaining APIs (familiarity with GraphQL will be helpful)
  • Independent and self motivated—maintaining side projects or libraries a major plus

Benefits

  • This is an early role, but we’re offering a competitive salary in addition to significant equity, a healthcare package, and whatever equipment you need to excel at your job.
  • Flexible vacation policy—we’re moving fast but want a sustainable culture.
  • We’re currently located in San Francisco, but open to remote applicants.
